He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 NASB
Healing hurts. There’s just no other way to put it. When something is broken, torn or scraped, the wound is open, raw and constantly irritated. Some days are better than others, but all it takes is rubbing it the wrong way or something catching it just right and that wound is open and bare all over again. This is especially true when the wound is in a spot that is easily irritated or often used. If you are new to the recovery process, the wounds are easily irritated. It may seem that all is okay, then something blindsides you, scrapes the scab off and opens up all those hurts once again.
When this happens, what you have to remember is that God is healing those wounds. When we get a scratch and keep knocking the scab off, each time there’s less and less scab to knock off until finally all that is left is a little scar. The same is true in spiritual healing. Each time the wound is healing a little more than the last time before the scab gets knocked off again. Eventually the wound will be healed. The hits will come, but eventually they won’t hurt so much. And God will restore your life to more than you could ever imagine.
Point of Grace sings a song that brings me to tears almost every time I hear it. I’ll leave you with it today. Don’t lose sight of what He’s doing. Be willing to love through the hurts and pain. May the words of this song be your prayer:
